Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has joined a high-profile gathering of African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition leaders in Abuja, signaling a united front among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting, held in Nigeria’s capital, brought together key political figures including Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna; Isa Pantami, ex-minister of digital economy; David Mark, ADC chairman; and Aminu Tambuwal, former Sokoto governor.
In a post on X, Abubakar described the coalition’s mission as a stand against “oligarchs who promote poverty and insecurity in the land,” underscoring the group’s intent to challenge entrenched power structures.
This coalition, officially adopted in July as the platform for the 2027 elections, includes prominent opposition leaders such as Uche Secondus (former PDP chairman), Peter Obi (2023 Labour Party presidential candidate), Rotimi Amaechi (former transportation minister), and Odigie Oyegun (ex-APC chairman).
Their alliance marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, aiming to reshape governance and offer a unified alternative to the ruling establishment.
