Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its tendency to increase tariffs, which he says does not align with the realities faced by Nigerian workers.
Atiku’s Criticism of Tinubu’s Policies
Atiku stated that the continued increase in tariffs for various services without addressing corruption and inefficiencies in the system amounts to “long-suffering Nigerians subsidizing the corruption and inefficiencies in the system.”
He accused the Tinubu administration of “subsidizing corruption and living in affluence while impoverishing the masses.”
Atiku lamented that despite prolonged promises, the much-anticipated wage increases for Nigerian workers remain elusive.
He said the current administration has “trampled workers’ rights” and that the living conditions of Nigerian workers remain at a “miserably low ebb.”
Atiku’s Solidarity with Nigerian Workers
Atiku expressed sympathy for the plight of Nigerian workers under the current government, which he said has “ridiculed” them for too long.
He congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, hoping that the theme of “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work In a Changing Climate” will inspire the government to prioritize the concerns of Nigerian workers.
Atiku highlighted the historical role of Nigerian workers in the fight against tyranny and bad governance, from the days of legendary labor leader Pa. Michael Imoudu to more recent figures like Pascal Bafyau and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Overall, Atiku’s statement represents a scathing critique of the Tinubu administration’s economic policies and their impact on the Nigerian workforce, as he positions himself as a champion of workers’ rights and welfare.
