Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has voiced his disapproval of the continuous onslaught against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 elections.

Dalung asserts that despite attempts by President Bola Tinubu’s associates, including Onanuga, Bwala, and Reno, to vilify Peter Obi, it is evident that Tinubu cannot escape with Obi’s electoral mandate.

In a recent social media post from his official handle, Dalung singled out individuals including Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to Tinubu on Information and Strategy; Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide; and Daniel Bwala, the former spokesperson for the Atiku Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation, for their relentless attacks and criticism of Obi.

Dalung expressed his belief that the consistent targeting of Obi in various public statements indicates an attempt to undermine his legitimacy. He suggested that this behavior implies an effort by Tinubu to usurp Obi’s electoral mandate, though Dalung asserted that such attempts would not succeed.

He wrote, “The consistent attacks and vilification of @PeterObi by @renoomokri, @aonanuga1956, and the new @officialABAT convert @BwalaDaniel in every media statement or post, have led me to the undeniable conclusion that their principal snatched his mandate but cannot abscond with it.”

In a separate development, Peter Obi has called for a comprehensive review of the 2024 Nigerian budget. In a statement released on Monday via his official platform, Obi urged both the executive and legislative branches of government to reevaluate the budget to safeguard its integrity.

Citing the controversies surrounding the 2024 budget, the former Governor of Anambra State emphasized the importance of ensuring transparency and accountability in fiscal matters.
