At least five worshippers were killed when armed bandits attacked a mosque during early morning prayers in Yandoto village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Witnesses reported that the attackers stormed the mosque and opened fire indiscriminately, leaving several others injured.

A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons, revealed that some worshippers were also abducted before the assailants fled into a nearby forest. Describing the attack as “barbaric and inhuman,” the source confirmed that the injured are receiving medical treatment and responding well.

DSP Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, said he had not yet received a briefing from the Divisional Police Officer overseeing the area.

This incident comes less than a week after a similar attack in Gidan Turbe village, also in Tsafe LGA, where around 40 worshippers were abducted during dawn prayers.

In a separate tragedy, over 100 illegal miners are feared dead following the collapse of a gold pit in Kadauri village, Maru LGA. Sources indicated that the pit caved in on Thursday, trapping miners inside. Rescue efforts led to additional casualties, with several rescuers reportedly suffocating during the operation.

Eight bodies have been recovered so far, all identified as residents of Mekwanugga village, and have been returned to their community for burial rites.
