Anointed candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been elected President of the Senate.

He beat his sole rival, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, this Tuesday morning.

Nominations were received for only Akpabio and Yari, indicating that Senators Orji Uzor Kalu and Osita Izunaso had withdrawn from the race at the late hour.

Voting begun at exactly 08:45am on a state by state basis, alphabetically.

In the end, Akpabio, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom who later served as a Minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022, beat Yari, a former Governor of Zamfara State, to emerge as President of the 10th Senate.
