Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Kaduna International Airport this Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2022.

Sources who spoke to News Express said the incident occurred around 12:47 p.m. when the gunmen stormed the runway in the western wing of the airport about the time a Lagos-bound AZMAN commercial aircraft was about taking off.

“The bandits came in their numbers on a recent mission of allegedly to retrieve cattle confiscated from them by security from neighbouring villages of the airport.

“They opened fire on the NAMA security staff, killing him instantly and tried to invade the runway to prevent the AZMAN aircraft from taking off. But combined troops foiled the bandits attempts.

“We also sighted airforce planes and helicopters around the airport and loud sound of bombardments of the gunmen,” a source from the airport who pleaded for anonymity told News Express.

“Everywhere is normal now. As I speak to you, there is heavy military presence at the airport,” the source added.

Kaduna Police Spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Jalige, had yet to respond to calls and text message on the attack as at the time of filing this report.
