A newly-elected member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Ismaila Yushau Maihanci, has died.

Maihanci, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to represent Jalingo, Yorro, Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State, died early this Saturday morning, April 22, 2023, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. His janaza (funeral prayer) is scheduled to hold at the National Mosque in Abuja after today’s noon prayers.

A statement made available to newsmen the Taraba State PDP spokesperson, Andeta’rang Irammae, said Maihanci, 37, fell sick shortly after the February 25 election and had been receiving medical treatment in Abuja.

He described Maihanci’s death as a rude shock to the PDP, saying that the deceased would be missed by the party and the people of the state at large.

Reacting to the sad development, the acting chairman of the party, Abubakar Bawa, described the death as a big blow to the PDP family in the state and the country at large.

Maihanci’s death came barely five weeks to his inauguration as a member of the National Assembly.

The October 22, 1986 Maihanci was a businessman and politician who prior to his election served as a Special Adviser to Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku. He had also served as the Secretary of PDP in Taraba State.

He is survived by a wife Fatiha Sangari and a son.
