In a stark contradiction to the assurances made by Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and the accompanying service chiefs during their visit to Plateau State, a surge of fresh violence has unfolded in Ndun village of Tangur District, Bakkos Local Government Area. This tragic incident has led to the untimely deaths of Mallam Muhammad Sani Idris, the chief imam, and motorcyclist Muhammad Gambo.”

Garba Abdullahi, chairman of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), confirmed the distressing incident on Wednesday, January 3.

Abdullahi revealed that Salisu Muhammad Sani Idris, the younger brother of the deceased imam, sustained injuries during the attack and was currently receiving treatment at Dung Hospital in Bokkos town. The incident has been reported to the security agencies in Bokkos for swift action.

According to Abdullahi, the chief imam and his brother were assaulted on Monday while attempting to retrieve belongings left behind during the recent attacks on the community. The attackers killed the imam, and his younger brother survived with machete wounds.

In another grim development, Muhammad Gambo, an okada rider and GAFDAN member, was also killed on Monday near Bokkos Market while transporting a passenger to the area. Both incidents have been reported to the police and Operation Safe Have in Bokkos.

These latest casualties add to the growing toll of violence in the region, occurring just a week after 23 villages in Bokkos LGA were attacked, resulting in the loss of more than 150 lives. The state has witnessed a disturbing pattern of attacks and counterattacks, primarily involving clashes between herders and farming communities.
