Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reaffirmed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but stated he will not interfere with anyone’s political ambition, even if they are his allies.

This statement came during a visit by 21 APC governors to Buhari’s newly renovated residence in Kaduna, where they urged him to remain steadfast in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to sources who spoke with LEADERSHIP, the governors expressed concern over reports that some of Buhari’s former allies—such as ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and Labour Party leader Peter Obi—are considering a coalition to challenge Tinubu.

“The governors pleaded with Baba to commit fully to Tinubu’s second term, especially as some of his old political associates are now aligning with the opposition,” one insider said.

In response, Buhari reportedly made it clear that while he remains a loyal APC member, he does not intend to obstruct anyone’s political path, according to another source.

“I am still with the APC, but I will never stopped anyone from making decisions about their political future,” Buhari was quoted as saying.

This response underscores a growing political realignment ahead of 2027. As reported earlier, key figures from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)—a platform once led by Buhari—are now backing a proposed Atiku/Obi presidential ticket. The move is seen as part of a broader effort to challenge President Tinubu from both within and outside the APC.

With shifting loyalties and former allies re-emerging as potential rivals, the road to 2027 is already heating up.
