The Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Most Reverend Augustine Ukwuoma, has called on Nigerian leaders to shun violence and bloodshed, emphasizing the importance of supporting community development and Christianity.

During the dedication of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Umuorji, Mgbidi, Oru East council area of Imo State, Bishop Ukwuoma praised the positive example set by Ezenwa Collins Ilo, who financially contributed to the construction of the new church.

He urged leaders to follow Ilo’s path of contributing to human development and emphasized that places of worship should not be used for mundane gatherings but sanctified as the dwelling place of God.

Bishop Ukwuoma referenced King David’s desire to build a temple for God, noting that although David was not allowed to do so due to his involvement in wars, the community’s church was accepted by God. He reminded the faithful to keep their hands clean from bloodshed.

Also, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, also spoke at the event, commending those who contributed to building the church and urging leaders to use their wealth to address societal issues, particularly poverty.

Obi encouraged individuals like Ezenwa Collins Ilo to continue their efforts for the community and the nation, emphasizing faithfulness to God and assistance to communities for the betterment of Nigeria.
