Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has advocated for immediate action from the federal government, emphasizing the exploration of diplomatic channels to address the activities of Mr. Simon Ekpa, the factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

General Musa also questioned the delay in using diplomatic channels to repatriate Simon Ekpa. He emphasized the need for decisive measures, expressing concern over Ekpa’s activities in Finland and the potential danger of allowing him to continue spreading statements that could incite turmoil in Nigeria.

The call for immediate action was made during a visit to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. He urged the government to take decisive measures and not allow Finland to provide refuge to Ekpa.

The Chief of Defence called on the Ministry of Information to play a vital role in communicating to Nigerians the importance of collective responsibility in addressing these issues.

“The Ministry of Information can do so much to mitigate all these challenges we are facing. We want you to come in because you will help us a lot. We can pass this message across to Nigerians why every Nigerian should take ownership of what is going on. It will assist us in also achieving much because the cooperation will now come with the understanding and confidence which are critical aspects for us to be able to achieve our goals,” General Musa emphasized.

In his response, Minister Mohammed Idris assured that the federal government was carefully reviewing the situation regarding Ekpa, emphasizing the need for confidentiality in certain matters. He underscored the importance of upholding freedom of information while stressing the strategic role of promoting patriotism and nationalism in curbing violent crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

Idris further urged the military to reintroduce the practice of embedding journalists in military operations, providing firsthand insight into the theater of operations and contributing to a more informed and balanced narrative. The minister emphasized the necessity of reclaiming national values and fostering a sense of unity and prosperity among Nigerians.

In conclusion, both leaders emphasized the collective responsibility of all Nigerians in the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and banditry, reinforcing that the war is a joint endeavor to preserve the sovereignty of the nation.
