Kaduna, Nigeria — In a bold political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, a coalition of opposition parties and prominent stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has vowed to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Uba Sani in Kaduna State.
At a press conference held Monday in Kaduna, leaders from across Nigeria’s major opposition parties including former members of the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP) announced plans to form a united front under the ADC. The coalition said it aims to dismantle what it describes as a pattern of “divisive, self-serving, and lawless governance” in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition and ADC stakeholders, Malam Salihu Mohammed Lukman, former APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), emphasized the urgent need to replace the APC-led administration with a truly people-oriented government.
“Kaduna has suffered enough. Leaders have taken advantage of citizens’ frustrations to grab power, only to deepen their hardship through exclusionary and reckless policies,” Lukman stated.
The press briefing carried the endorsement of notable opposition figures, including:
- Sen. Nenadi Usman
- Sen. Datti Baba Ahmed
- Dr. John Ayuba
- Sen. Musa Bello
- Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati
These leaders also signed a joint communiqué affirming their commitment to building a grassroots movement that can deliver a strong alternative to the APC.
According to Lukman, the ADC has now been adopted as the central political platform for the coalition’s 2027 ambitions, and mobilization efforts are already underway across all 23 local government areas and 255 wards in the state.
He stressed that the party must not become another tool for personal ambition or political trading, warning that any governorship aspirations would be deferred until a solid democratic foundation is built.
“The era of godfatherism and imposition is over,” Lukman declared. “No one will hijack the ADC in Kaduna. Every stakeholder will have an equal voice, and decisions will be made collectively.”
The Kaduna coalition is taking its cue from the broader national opposition strategy, which aims to unite all anti-APC forces behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. The state-level alliance, Lukman said, mirrors that national unity and determination.
He also called on aspiring politicians to embrace tolerance and internal democracy, warning that political intolerance leads to rigging, abuse of power, and exclusion — all issues the coalition intends to eliminate.
Addressing questions on the leadership of ADC in Kaduna, Lukman clarified that the party’s Interim National Chairman, Sen. David Mark, has assured that existing state executives will remain in position until official transition guidelines are issued.
As part of the party’s expansion efforts, the coalition revealed plans to launch mass membership registration across Kaduna. Registration centres will be opened in all local government areas in the coming weeks to accommodate citizens eager to join the movement.
“Only a truly democratic platform with internal checks and balances can produce leaders with the integrity and capacity to rescue Nigeria’s democracy and deliver quality governance,” Lukman said.
He concluded the event with a prayer, urging divine support for their mission:
“May God crown our efforts with success and grant Nigeria leaders who will selflessly meet public expectations.”
With these declarations, Kaduna is poised to become a battleground for political renewal, setting the stage for what could be a transformative 2027 election season.
