Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has expressed his willingness to work with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and all Nigerians, emphasizing unity and collaboration for the country’s progress.
Obi expressed strong confidence in the coalition’s members, describing them as “decent people” committed to working in Nigeria’s best interest.
He emphasized the importance of sacrifice and unity, stating, “I believe there will come a time all of us will sacrifice for the country. That’s how I see it. At that time, we will ensure that the best among us emerges as [candidate].”
Obi also revealed that the coalition is on the verge of adopting a political platform, with several parties already in discussions to join. However, he acknowledged that internal challenges within some of these parties are slowing down their formal entry.
On leadership style and decision-making, Obi reiterated his commitment to wide consultation. “I will do what’s in the best interest of the country and what those I lead and who are following me want. I don’t discuss such things on my own,” he stated.
Citing his 2022 departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obi explained that it was not a spontaneous decision. “If you were among those close to me, you would know that I consulted before I left the PDP. I didn’t just wake up in the morning and say I will do this.”
Looking ahead, Obi stressed that any major political move, including decisions about candidacy or party alignment, will follow the same consultative process. “When that time comes, you will see, and I will consult. I have never done anything without consultation,” he concluded.
Obi’s statements underscore his strategy of collaborative leadership and signal a potential reshaping of Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
