The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) has intensified its campaign of violence against Christian communities in Northeast Nigeria, with a fresh attack reported in Adamawa State.

According to security analyst Brant Philip, ISWAP released images showing a Christian village in Adamawa set ablaze, accompanied by a statement threatening Christians across the country. In a post shared on X on Thursday, Philip said the group claimed Christians were “legitimate targets” and demanded conversion to Islam or the payment of jizyah to avoid further attacks.

The latest assault is widely viewed as retaliation for recent joint air operations conducted by Nigerian and United States forces against terrorist strongholds.

Five days earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American forces had carried out airstrikes targeting terrorist enclaves in Sokoto State, in coordination with Nigerian authorities.

Security experts warn that the development underscores growing risks for vulnerable communities and highlights the ongoing challenge of countering extremist violence in the region.
