In a compelling statement released on Tuesday, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) asserts that the controversy surrounding Betta Edu’s alleged palliatives money scam delves deeper than the public is aware.
Warning against political cover-ups, CUPP applauds the suspension and inquiry into the actions of the Humanitarian Affairs minister and urges President Bola Tinubu to extend the investigation to unearth all involved in the treasury plunder.
CUPP’s National Secretary, Peter Ameh, emphasizes, “It is our belief that the suspended Minister could not have carried out that heist without the urging of a stronger and perhaps high-ranking member or members of the present government.”
Highlighting the broader issue within the Humanitarian Affairs ministry, CUPP draws attention to ongoing probes into the former minister, Sadia Umar, for embezzling nearly forty billion naira. The present minister, Betta Edu, faces scrutiny for her alleged role in transferring five hundred and eight-five million naira to a private bank account.
Expressing a different approach to humanitarian efforts, CUPP advocates for empowering people to become self-sustaining rather than providing temporary relief. The organization envisions the potential impact of redirecting the budgets of over five hundred billion towards cottage industries, farm settlements, and employment generation.
As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) initiates investigations, the call for a reconsideration of the ministry’s role and mandate is emphasized to rescue the nation from further embarrassment.
