Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, Aliko Dangote, has expressed his frustration over the cumbersome process of intra-African travel for Nigerians.
In a recent interview, Dangote revealed his grievances to Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, about the necessity for Nigerians to obtain 35 different visas for traveling within Africa.
Dangote, who is a prominent figure in the African business landscape, compared his travel experience with that of the interviewer, Patrick. He pointed out that Patrick, presumably holding a non-African passport, would not face the same visa requirements.
Dangote stated, “Just an hour ago, I voiced my concerns to President Kagame. The need to apply for 35 different visas on my passport is a significant inconvenience. It’s not feasible for me to spend time submitting my passport at various embassies for visa applications.”
He further added, “The most frustrating aspect is the lack of uniform treatment. I can assure you, Patrick doesn’t need 35 visas.”
While Dangote acknowledged the existence of visa-free zones such as the one including Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya, he advocated for a broader implementation across the continent.
In a call to action, Dangote urged African leaders to take the initiative, stating, “We Africans must take the lead. If we wait for outsiders to drive Africa’s development, it won’t happen.”
