The former First Lady of Ondo State, Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has expressed deep concern over the acute hunger plaguing Nigeria, likening the situation to that of war-torn Somalia.

In an X post on Sunday, she highlighted the tragic outcomes of two separate stampede incidents during palliative distribution events.

On Saturday, a devastating stampede at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, resulted in the death of at least 10 individuals, including children, with another 10 sustaining injuries.

Concurrently, in Anambra State, the police reported 22 fatalities from a similar event at the Obijackson Foundation’s Christmas rice distribution in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area.

Dr. Anyanwu-Akeredolu shared news reports of these incidents and commented, “Hunger has turned Nigeria to Somalia. This is Ikegwuru (tiring) Situation!”
