In the wake of the tragic loss of military officials in Okuama, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has pledged to protect innocent civilians from any potential retaliatory actions.

This assurance came after a comprehensive discussion with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where they addressed the possibility of military backlash against local communities.

It is remembered that approximately 16 military personnel lost their lives in the Okuama community during a rescue operation amid a conflict between the Okuama and Okoloba communities. This incident sparked concerns about possible military retaliation, leading Governor Oborevwori to seek national intervention.

In a dialogue with State House correspondents, Governor Oborevwori conveyed President Tinubu’s commitment to peace and their joint denouncement of the violence that resulted in the loss of military lives.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the need for a two-pronged approach to the situation, stating, “The unfortunate incidents of destruction and loss of lives have occurred; the question now is, what’s next? We must focus on two things. Firstly, we must provide comfort for the families of the deceased officers and soldiers, and secondly, ensure they receive a dignified farewell.”
