President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigeria’s digital creators, tech entrepreneurs, and social media influencers to wield their growing online influence with a heightened sense of responsibility and national pride. Addressing a vibrant audience at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the president lauded the innovative spirit of Nigeria’s digital youth but warned against the rising threat of misinformation in the digital space.
“You are not waiting to be invited into the future. You are building the future,” Tinubu declared, acknowledging the transformative role of Nigeria’s digital generation. He praised the community’s role in reshaping national narratives, driving innovation, and engaging in civic activism.
Tinubu emphasised that new media is no longer a secondary part of national life, but a central force in economic growth, political discourse, and social development. “It is fast becoming a central driver of economic growth, civic engagement, and social change,” he said.
The president highlighted the critical influence that young Nigerians now wield in both public opinion and innovation, noting that their use of digital tools to advocate, educate, and hold leaders accountable has become a hallmark of their generation. “Your generation has understood this moment,” he said. “But as this influence grows, so too must our collective sense of purpose and responsibility.”
Tinubu urged influencers and tech creators to prioritise truthful, constructive content that fosters unity and reflects national values. “We are in a world where disinformation spreads easily. Verify before you amplify, please. Let the digital space reflect the values that bind us together as a people: honesty, compassion, discipline, and patriotism.”
He offered a more grounded view of patriotism, defining it not by political slogans or theatrics, but by actions that serve the common good. “Every app you create, every brand you build, every story you tell is a message to the world about who we are and what we stand for as a nation.”
The president also highlighted his administration’s recognition of the digital sector’s critical role in Nigeria’s future. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting digital innovation and entrepreneurship through policy and infrastructure investment. “This administration understands the importance of this new frontier,” Tinubu concluded.
The event drew participants from across Nigeria’s digital landscape and underscored the administration’s focus on building a future-ready economy anchored in innovation, ethical storytelling, and inclusive growth.
