The Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has issued a stern warning to the public to disregard any press statements or remarks made by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, as he is not the legitimate Secretary-General of the group.

In a statement released by the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, and issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, the organization has categorically stated that Isiguzoro is an “usurper and an impostor” who has no authority or mandate to act or speak on behalf of Ohaneze Ndigbo.

The statement explains that on January 10, 2021, the General Assembly of Ohaneze convened in Owerri and overwhelmingly elected Amb. Okey Emuchay as the legitimate Secretary-General of the organization. However, shortly after the election, Isiguzoro and one Chidi Ibeh, who did not participate in the election, declared themselves as the President-General and Secretary-General, respectively.

Ohaneze Ndigbo immediately took legal action against the two individuals, and the Enugu State High Court issued an injunction restraining them from parading themselves as representatives of the organization. Despite this court order, which is still in effect, Isiguzoro has continued to impersonate the Office of the Secretary-General and has refused to honor invitations from security operatives to answer to criminal complaints of impersonation and perjury.

The President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has now notified the general public to disregard any publication, press release, or remarks emanating from Okechukwu Isiguzoro or his agents, as they do not represent the position of Ohaneze Ndigbo. The organization has also appealed to the media to be cautious in what they publish about Ohaneze and to seek clearance from the organization’s leadership before going public.

Ohaneze Ndigbo has also requested that any member of the public with information on the whereabouts of Okechukwu Isiguzoro should report it to the nearest police station or to the Ohaneze Ndigbo Secretariat in Enugu. The organization has warned that anyone dealing with Isiguzoro on issues related to Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide does so at their own risk.
