Ebonyi State Chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded Governor David Umahi for declaring his intention to contest for the office of the president of Nigeria in the upcoming 2023 general elections, News Express reports.
Governor Umahi had on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the Aso Presidential Villa, Abuja, declared his intention to contest for the Nigerian presidency in the next election, shortly after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
He told Journalists that he was in Aso Rock to brief Mr President of his ambition.
Chairman of the Party in the State, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha while reacting to the development on Wednesday in a chat with Journalists described Umahi’s decision as not just a bold step but a welcome development.
APC chairman, Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha Okoro-Emegha, said the Governor’s declaration came at the expected time, adding that it was a good thing for the people of Ebonyi State, the entire Igbo race and Nigeria at large.
According to him, Governor Umahi has made us proud especially by making this bold step at a time we are saying, who will go for us.
He said Nigeria at the moment, was in dire in need of someone like Umahi, to take the country out of the many challenges facing her.
The State APC boss further called on the leadership of the APC across the country to rally round Umahi, even as he predicted that many PDP leaders would also rally round Umahi by reason of this declaration.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) family in Ebonyi State, wish to express her joy and happiness over the bold step taken by His Excellency, our dear Governor who openly declared his intention to contest for the office of the President of Nigeria.
“This is a welcome development. This declaration came at the expected time and it’s a good thing for Ebonyi people, the entire Igbo race and Nigeria at large. His declaration yesterday truly confirms that the Governor is someone who is always guided by Holy Spirit in all that he is doing.
“The Governor has made us proud especially by making this bold step at a time we are saying, who will go for us. Nigeria at the moment is in dire need of somebody like him, to take country out of the many challenges facing it.
“We have no doubt that the APC leadership in the entire country will rally round him. Even leaders from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are going to rally round him at this moment to take our country to her rightful destination.
“So, the APC family in Ebonyi, South-East and the entire Nigeria are happy over His Excellency’s declaration of his interest to contest for the Presidency of the country.”
