Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu, representing Abia North, has revealed that he has stopped using his private jet, citing Nigeria’s current economic situation as the primary reason for this decision.

In a video released on Saturday, Uzor-Kalu explained that he made the decision in response to the rising costs associated with operating the jet. He stated that he now flies on commercial airlines instead.

Additionally, the senator disclosed that his private jet is currently being leased out to support the air transport needs of oil company officials, thus generating revenue during this period.

“Honestly, I have stopped using my private jet since August 2, 2024. I will maintain this until we resolve salary disparities between Nigerian and West African workers. With the high cost of fuel and other expenses, there’s no need to explain further. The jet is grounded and being used for other business activities with oil companies,” Uzor-Kalu stated.

When asked about future travel arrangements, Uzor-Kalu affirmed his commitment to using commercial flights, adding, “I want to maintain this path. There are commercial planes on schedule, and I will use them to the glory of God.”

Uzor-Kalu is one of the first prominent Nigerian politicians to own a private jet, making his decision noteworthy amidst the country’s ongoing economic challenges.
