The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on its supporters to stop sharing false election results online amid the ongoing Edo State Gubernatorial Election, held today, September 21st.

The party responded to claims suggesting that it is trailing in the election, which have been circulating on social media.

In an official statement released by APC spokesperson Felix Morka, the party acknowledged the reports but emphasized that it is currently leading in the early stages of the election process, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to collate results.

“The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to reports circulating on social media by certain political parties, promoting fake vote tallies in the ongoing Edo State Gubernatorial Election,” the statement read.

APC urged voters and the public to dismiss these speculative claims, clarifying that collation at the ward level is still underway, with local government collation yet to begin in most areas of the state.

According to the APC, only INEC has the authority to officially collate results at the ward, local government, and state levels, in accordance with the Electoral Act. While the party expressed confidence in its early lead, it reiterated its commitment to awaiting INEC’s official declaration of the final results.

The APC concluded by urging the public to remain patient and disregard any misinformation until INEC announces the final outcome of the election.
