Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, presented a 2025 budget proposal totaling N396.6 billion to the state House of Assembly on Thursday.
The budget, titled the “Budget of Economic and Social Development,” aims to drive industrialization, economic growth, and an enhanced standard of living for residents of the state.
Key Allocations
The education sector emerged as the largest beneficiary, with an allocation of N70.1 billion, followed by the health sector, which received N39 billion. These investments underscore the administration’s emphasis on human capital development and public welfare.
Governor Nwifuru highlighted the need for a transformative approach to education, stating that his administration is focused on equipping students with entrepreneurial skills and fostering technological and scientific expertise.
“We have introduced numerous curriculum reforms in basic and secondary education to prioritize technology and science,” he said. “Additionally, we are enhancing public school education by employing teachers specialized in technology and entrepreneurial training.”
Sectoral Breakdown
The budget prioritizes the economic and social sectors, allocating N200.1 billion (50.46%) and N141.2 billion (35.60%) respectively. These sectors are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the state’s developmental goals.
Other allocations include:
- Administrative Sector: N50.9 billion (12.8%)
- Law and Justice Sector: N4.1 billion (1.04%)
Governor Nwifuru expressed optimism that the proposed budget would catalyze industrial and economic progress while improving the quality of life across Ebonyi State.
