The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is diligently pursuing investigations and legal actions against former officials of the Muhammadu Buhari administration implicated in corrupt practices.

Recently, the EFCC summoned former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika to address allegations of conspiracy, abuse of office, misappropriation of public funds, and contract inflation. Sirika stands accused of granting aviation contracts exceeding N8 billion to his brother, a civil servant, and is slated for court arraignment this week.

A confidential source within the presidency reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating corruption, stating, “This administration maintains a strict zero-tolerance stance against corruption. We are actively probing former officials and are prepared to recover embezzled funds from any guilty parties. Those who believed themselves immune will soon realize that no one is above the law in the President’s pursuit of justice.”

Insiders have disclosed that the EFCC is actively investigating multiple cases and will summon individuals for interrogation upon completing their inquiries. Furthermore, some officials are opting for covert plea bargains, returning stolen assets to the government. Nevertheless, those who resist cooperation will be prosecuted.

The former President, known for his anti-corruption advocacy, has distanced himself from any involvement and will not shield any errant officials. Reports suggest that numerous cases have emerged, with many individuals opting for plea bargains to return misappropriated funds. Those unwilling to engage in plea bargains will face legal consequences.

Notable figures from the previous administration currently under EFCC scrutiny include Hadi Sirika, former Minister of Aviation; Abubakar Malami, former Justice Minister and Attorney-General; and Sadiya Umar-Farouq, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
