Beatrice Ekweremadu, the wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has returned to Nigeria after her release from a UK prison. She reportedly arrived back in Nigeria on Tuesday.

On March 23, 2023, Beatrice, her husband Ike, and their doctor, Obinna Obeta, were convicted of conspiring to exploit a young boy for his kidney.

The boy, who had been hawking in Lagos, was allegedly lured to the UK under false pretenses to donate an organ for the couple’s ailing daughter, Sophia Ekweremadu.

Following the trial, Ike Ekweremadu was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Beatrice received a six-year sentence despite citing health concerns during the proceedings.
