Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has called for a thorough investigation into allegations that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, led an armed attack against the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Atiku Abubakar Isah.
Responding to a viral tweet that condemned the incident and called for justice, El-Rufai urged transparency and immediate action.
He tweeted:
“What is going on here? Is there a denial by the named culprits or any response from law enforcement agencies or inquiries by the human rights organizations? We must ask questions, and demand answers and action!! #JusticeforNANSPresident”
El-Rufai also tagged several prominent organizations and authorities, including Amnesty International Nigeria, Human Rights Watch, the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigeria Police Force, and both local and international media outlets, calling for accountability.
The original tweet declared:
“An attack on one Nigerian youth is an attack on all! We condemn the assault on the NANS President by Seyi Tinubu. Violence & intimidation have no place in our country. We must raise our voices: share, comment, and say NO to this barbaric act! #JusticeForNANSPresident”
NN News Media learnt according to a video by Isa that the thugs which allegedly linked to Seyi Tinubu kidnapped and assaultedhim following his refusal to accept a ₦100 million bribe purportedly offered to secure his support for the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The attack also targeted prominent political figures such as former Minister of Education and two-term Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, and former Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada.
According to Isa, the assailants — armed with cutlasses and firearms — stormed The Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro during the inauguration ceremony. He claimed that the violence erupted moments after Senator Shekarau began his address, with thugs halting the event, injuring attendees, and stealing personal belongings.
“At the venue, which I personally funded, Seyi Tinubu arrived with a large security presence and demanded the event be stopped,” Atiku recounted.
