The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said that Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies seem to act faster and stronger mostly against opposition politicians.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said this on ARISE Television on Thursday, commenting on the arrests of former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami and former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Abdullahi said people are starting to see national anti-corruption agencies as biased.

“We have the EFCC and the ICPC, two government-funded bodies meant to fight corruption,” he said. “But they seem to work well only when opposition leaders are involved. We are worried that national institutions are being turned into political tools.”

He also accused the government of selective prosecution.

“If you look at the ruling party, the APC, you’ll see people who still have ongoing cases or were investigated in the past,” Abdullahi said. “But once they join the ruling party, their cases are quietly dropped.”

He added that the ADC is not judging whether Malami or El-Rufai are guilty. “We are concerned about turning national institutions into weapons against opposition figures,” he said.
