Governor El-Rufai has been released from detention following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away in Egypt where she had been receiving medical care.

His son Bahsir El-Rufai shared the news on X, expressing gratitude for the support their family received during this difficult time.

El-Rufai had been with his mother in Egypt but returned to Nigeria after being invited by anti-corruption agencies. He was reportedly detained for over a month before being taken to court.

The court has now ordered that he remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission while his bail hearing is pending. The ICPC confirmed that his detention follows court-approved orders and is part of an ongoing investigation.
