Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has raised concern over the low turnout in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the South-East.
Speaking during an event in Imo State over the weekend, El-Rufai called on residents particularly women to take voter registration seriously, stressing that participation is a civic duty every citizen must fulfill.
“Our government is democratic; we elect our leaders, not select or appoint them. Voting is important, and registering to vote is a responsibility we must all embrace,” he said.
Highlighting recent registration figures, El-Rufai noted that the Southeast, including Imo State, is lagging behind other regions. He urged women to mobilize and encourage young people to register early, especially those nearing voting age.
“Our mothers, sisters, and daughters must take this up. Even children who are sixteen now and will be eighteen in two years should register ahead. It’s very important,” he emphasized.
