An elderly Nigerian woman has joined growing calls from young Nigerians over the country’s rising hardship and insecurity, using a handwritten roadside sign to demand that President Bola Tinubu leave office and that five people arrested in Borno State be released.
The woman was captured in a short video standing along a busy dirt roadside in a Nigerian market area while holding a large blue cardboard sign.
The sign carried the words “TINUBU MUST GO” on the top lines and “KURUBU MUST GO” on the lower lines.
She was seen speaking and pointing while holding the board, at times raising one finger toward the side as people and traffic moved around her.
Her appearance comes amid public frustration among some Nigerians over the rising cost of living, economic hardship and insecurity affecting communities across the country.
Young Nigerians have also been demanding answers and action over arrests connected to protests and other demonstrations, including calls for the release of five people arrested in Borno State.
The elderly woman’s appearance has therefore been viewed online as another expression of public anger, with her message combining opposition to Tinubu’s administration with a demand for the release of those being described by supporters as the Borno Five.
Social media user Uche Okoye, who posts under the name Anambra 1st son, shared the clip on X early Sunday.
Okoye described the elderly woman as starting a Tinubu Must Go protest and presented her action as an example of the way forward.
The scene shows ordinary street traffic and market activity continuing around the woman as she displays the board.
Her action has nevertheless attracted widespread attention online, particularly because she appears to be joining a broader wave of public concern over hardship, insecurity and the treatment of people arrested during political or civic protests.
