An inspector with the Enugu State Police Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad has been arrested and detained following the alleged murder of Okezie Chikezie Mba, a well-known Enugu traditional musician fondly called “Igbo-Jah.”

The tragic incident occurred on October 25 at approximately 8:10 p.m. at the Tactical Squad Headquarters, where the musician was reportedly paying a friendly visit. According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the officer fired his rifle for still-undetermined reasons, fatally wounding Igbo-Jah as he was leaving the premises.

Igbo-Jah was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has since been moved to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, DSP Ndukwe confirmed.

Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu has directed the State CID’s Deputy Commissioner of Police to lead a thorough investigation, promising swift and appropriate disciplinary measures against the officer involved. Expressing condolences to Igbo-Jah’s family, friends, and supporters, CP Uzuegbu condemned the incident as “unacceptable” and assured that anyone found responsible would face the full force of the law.

CP Uzuegbu encouraged those connected to Igbo-Jah to remain calm and work closely with the investigation team to ensure justice is served
