A northern political speaker featured in a video circulating on social media has declared that Nigerians voters would still reject the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu even if the government offered gold instead of naira.
The speaker made the remark while discussing the political support for the APC and Tinubu, stressing that financial incentives would not change the position of those opposed to the ruling party.
In the video shared on X by Samuel Omogor, the speaker used the expression “walahi talahi” to emphasise the strength of the claim and said that even the distribution of gold, rather than naira, would not persuade them to vote for the APC or Tinubu.
This moment comes as Nigeria moves closer to the January 2027 general elections. President Tinubu is seeking a second term on the APC ticket after the party adopted him as its candidate. At the same time the government has been pushing a programme that buys locally mined gold with naira to add to national reserves and try to make the currency stronger. The minister in charge recently presented refined gold bars to the president as proof the plan is working.
The speaker in the video treats even that kind of gold sharing as useless when it comes to changing how people will vote. His words tap into the hardship many feel after fuel subsidy removal and the drop in naira value that made food transport and daily life much more expensive.
The video continues to spread among Nigerians already unhappy with the current government and those looking for signs of resistance in the North. It adds one more voice to the growing conversation about whether economic pain will decide the next election more than any gift or programme.
