The media team of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has confirmed that he visited the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), though officials reportedly declined to interrogate him.

Bello, after consulting with his legal team and political allies, voluntarily honored the EFCC’s invitation. He was seen arriving at the agency’s headquarters with his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, both dressed in white.

However, just a few hours later, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale denied that Bello was in custody, affirming that the former governor remains wanted by the commission.

In response, Ohiare Michael, Director of Bello’s media team, issued a statement clarifying that the former governor indeed visited the EFCC office. According to Michael, “Earlier today, we reported the voluntary visit of former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to the EFCC to honor their invitation.”

Michael emphasized Bello’s respect for the rule of law, noting that his aim was to protect his fundamental rights and ensure due process was followed. He added that EFCC officials informed Bello he could leave without being interrogated, leaving the situation unclear. As of the latest update, Bello had left the EFCC office, accompanied by Governor Ododo.

The case involving Bello has been ongoing in court, and his legal team has consistently represented him in all hearings. Bello’s decision to appear before the EFCC was, according to his media team, a step to clear his name, as he claims to have nothing to hide or fear.
