The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has firmly dismissed renewed claims that he has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race.
A report circulating widely on social media alleged that Atiku had decided not to contest the next general election and had instead endorsed his long-time political ally, Peter Obi, for a single-term presidency.
Reacting to the claim, Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, described the report as completely false, stressing that the former vice president has neither stepped down nor pledged support to any other aspirant.
Sharing a screenshot of the viral report, Ibe bluntly tagged it as misinformation, stating, “Fake news: Not on the menu!”
This is not the first time Atiku has had to address speculation surrounding his political plans. Similar rumours have surfaced repeatedly in recent months.
In October, Atiku was quoted by the BBC Hausa Service as suggesting he might step aside for another presidential hopeful ahead of the 2027 polls. However, his team later clarified that his comments were taken out of context, reaffirming that the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate remains fully committed to contesting the 2027 election.
