The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sanctioned a total of ₦33.18 billion in contracts through ten memorandums aimed at rehabilitating key facilities in Abuja. This includes the Presidential Wing hangar and kitchen, the construction of an access road to the new EFCC Academy site in Giri District, and the establishment of ten staff quarters at the Nigeria Law School in Bwari.

The FCTA’s Executive Council (FCT-EXCO), chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, approved the contracts in a recent meeting. The meeting was attended by Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Shehu Hadi Ahmad, Transportation Secretary Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi, Chief of Staff Chidi Amadi, and Secretary of the Legal Services Secretariat Salman Dako.

Ahmad detailed key projects, including a N7.8 billion contract awarded to Levant Construction Limited for access road construction to the EFCC Academy. Another N9.8 billion contract was awarded to Julius Berger for road and facility renovations at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, covering the taxiway, apron, kitchen, and guest accommodations for visiting dignitaries.

The council also approved a N2.1 billion contract for designing and building 10 four-bedroom staff quarters at the Nigeria Law School, Bwari, awarded to Austlinks Energy Services Limited. This project will include internal roads, water facilities, and drainage networks.

Further approvals included a contract for the supply of diesel and petrol for Wupa Basin Sewage Treatment Plant, valued at N2 billion for a 12-month period, and a N7.2 billion contract with Planet Projects Limited to enhance access roads to Kugbo and Mabushi Bus/Taxi Terminals within a 12-week timeline.

For Abuja’s safety and environmental upkeep, the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) greenlit contracts for solar lighting installations across the FCT, as well as diesel supplies for the Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant.

In parallel with these developments, AMMC has taken action to address the vandalism of street lighting and public infrastructure. Sixteen suspects have been detained as part of a crackdown on theft, while five others were apprehended last week alone. AMMC Coordinator Felix Obuah underscored the importance of public cooperation in maintaining security, citing recent efforts that led to the capture of suspects linked to damage of newly installed solar-powered lights.

Obuah warned that vandals and their associates would face legal consequences, as recent incidents involved sophisticated equipment, suggesting organized involvement. The contractor for the solar installations, Aderemi Rashid, confirmed that anti-theft measures were breached despite increased security.

These intensified security and infrastructural efforts by the FCTA highlight ongoing measures to enhance Abuja’s safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.
