The Nigerian Federal Government has affirmed its commitment to recognize and reward the Super Eagles for their outstanding performance, securing a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final held in Ivory Coast on Wednesday, February 7th.

This assurance was conveyed through a statement on the official Instagram page of the Super Eagles today, February 8th.

Accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun and Duoye Diri of Bayelsa, a series of group photos featuring the Super Eagles were shared on Instagram. Notable figures including FIFA Council Member Amaju Pinnick, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and Oil tycoon Wale Tinubu were also present in the pictures.

The promise of recognition and reward follows the Eagles’ triumphant journey to the 2023 AFCON final, notably defeating South Africa in the semi-final stage via penalties. After a thrilling 1-1 draw in regulation time, Nigeria clinched victory in the penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali’s heroic saves securing their final berth.

A statement from the Super Eagles Instagram page quoted Vice President Kashim Shettima expressing pride on behalf of the government and people of Nigeria for the team’s dedication and accomplishment. This sentiment was echoed by Governors Abiodun and Diri, alongside other dignitaries present in the dressing room celebration.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are now set to face hosts Ivory Coast in the highly anticipated 2023 AFCON final, scheduled for 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 11th.
