First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu are set to lead a national prayer event aimed at invoking divine support for Nigeria’s economic recovery.

This initiative, announced by Chief Segun Balogun Afolorunikan, Director General of the National Prayer Forum (NPF), reflects a call for unity and resilience amid rising challenges.

The prayer event follows recent national outcry over economic hardships, as citizens struggle with escalating costs of living and increasing hunger across the country. Tensions have heightened over decisions made by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including a new presidential plane purchase and a recent Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) decision, led by Nyesom Wike, to allocate N9.8 billion for renovating the Presidential Wing despite the nation’s economic crisis.

Afolorunikan outlined the event’s theme, “Seeking the Intervention of God in Nigeria’s Affairs,” emphasizing its purpose to inspire both citizens and leaders toward effective, lasting solutions for national stability. The prayer sessions will span a week, with interfaith participation from both Muslims and Christians.

The Muslim community will gather at the National Mosque in Abuja, where 313 participants will recite the Qur’an daily, aiming for a total of 2,191 recitations dedicated to peace and stability. Christian prayer sessions will be held at the National Ecumenical Centre, bringing together prayer leaders from various denominations focused on overcoming national adversities.

“By the end of this prayer session, we believe that, with God’s wisdom, our leaders and citizens will find the strength to confront our common challenges,” Afolorunikan stated.
