NN News Media’s publisher, Nkiruka Nistoran, has called on crypto entrepreneur Gaius Chibueze, popularly known as “Bitcoin Chief” or “OMA JI EGO,” to stop endorsing the term “Biafra.”

In a post, Nistoran argues that the name has historically caused more harm than good in Igbo land. She suggests that efforts should focus instead on economic growth and unity within the Igbo community.

Chibueze recently advocated for an “Economic Biafra,” suggesting it as the key to Igbo advancement. He stated that his support of the term “Biafra” stems from its regional significance, even though he acknowledges that the name has been marred by those who bring harm to Igbo communities. In a recent tweet, he wrote, “Listen up, Ndi Igbo. ECONOMIC BIAFRA is the only hope for Ndi Igbo!” He emphasized the need for Igbo people to invest in their homeland instead of sitting idle, comparing the situation to Catalonia’s economic approach within Spain, highlighting tourism, entrepreneurship, and economic resilience.

Nistoran responded firmly, questioning the validity of a “Biafra economy,” stating, “There is no such thing as a ‘Biafra economy.’ You either believe in the economy of Ndi-Igbo or you don’t. Please stop promoting the name ‘Biafra,’ which is causing harm and destruction to our land.”

Chibueze has cautioned against self-destructive practices in Igbo land, warning that if they continue, the region could face challenges similar to those seen in Sudan. He called on the Igbo community to resist those causing harm and instead promote economic development.

Chibueze’s stance reflects ideas he shared in a book published three years ago, where he introduced the concept of “Economic Biafra” to emphasize self-sustenance, investment, and economic empowerment in Ala Igbo.

Meanwhile, Nistoran concluded her remarks by reinforcing the need for unity against those who threaten to harm Igbo land, advocating for a focus on economic development rather than divisive rhetoric.
