Mrs. Oluchi Oparah, former National Treasurer of the Labour Party, has raised significant concerns about financial misconduct within the party.
In a recent statement, Oparah accused Mr. Julius Abure, the former Acting National Chairman, of misappropriating 3.5 billion Naira that was raised during the 2023 General Election.
Oparah, who has direct knowledge of the party’s financial affairs, asserted that this substantial sum was intended for essential party expenditures but was allegedly diverted for personal gain. Instead of addressing these serious allegations, Abure has reportedly engaged in a smear campaign against Peter Obi, the party’s esteemed leader, to deflect attention from his actions.
The former treasurer has called for immediate transparency and accountability, urging both the Labour Party leadership and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the claims against Abure. She emphasized that accountability is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the party and insisted that Abure must provide evidence to refute the allegations.
Oparah affirmed her commitment to advocating for transparency within the party, asserting that the truth must come to light and justice must be served.
