The lifeless body of the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, former Governor of Ondo State, made its way back to Nigeria, marking the end of his journey in Germany where he succumbed to prostate cancer just days ago.

The arrival of the late Governor’s remains was reported by The Guardian, noting that the plane carrying the body touched down in the country at approximately 3:39 pm. Among those present to receive him were his wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, children, and siblings, led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, his immediate younger brother.

Notable dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Chief of Staff Mr. Tayo Ayinde, and Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by Secretary to the State Government Mr. Tokunbi Talabi, joined the reception. Senator Demola Adeleke represented the Governor of Osun State in welcoming the departed leader.

The somber event was also attended by Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin; House of Representatives member Hon. Gboyega Adefarati; and some members of the Ondo State Executive Council, led by Secretary to the State Government Princess Oladunni Odu.

Emotions ran high among family members, followers, friends, and associates as the late Governor’s body was tenderly lowered from the plane.

Late Governor Akeredolu’s battle with prostate cancer ended in Germany, and Richard Olatunde, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, conveyed, “His remains have been deposited at the morgue until the final burial.” The family is expected to announce the details of the burial arrangements at a later date.
