In a dynamic cross over night service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Opobo town in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara unequivocally solidified his position as the executive governor.
Amidst a brewing power tussle, he confidently declared that the ongoing struggle was for his seat, emphasizing that he still possesses the coveted ‘Red Biro.’
Addressing the congregation, Governor Fubara reassured his supporters, saying, “I want to urge every one of us here, don’t be frightened. What they want is this red biro, it’s still with me, they have failed, you are the winner, we are the winner because we are still signing with the red biro.”
He continued, “As long as we are signing with the red biro, development will continue in Rivers State. 2024 will witness an unprecedented height in our state. The only thing we are asking from every one of you is your support, your prayers, and belief in every decision we take. Rest assured, we will not throw any of you under the bus. I won the governorship standing for you, and now that I’m the governor, I will continue to stand for you.”
Governor Fubara’s resolute speech followed the resignation of the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Edison Ehie. In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, Ehie stepped down from his position as the Speaker and vacated his office as the member representing Ahoada East constituency. It is noteworthy that Ehie is considered a staunch loyalist to Governor Fubara.
