The Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has called on Nigerians to acknowledge the significance of the recently reported 3.46% GDP growth in Q3 2024, as released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Speaking late Thursday, Onanuga criticized allegations of data manipulation, asserting that the NBS employs transparent and continuously refined methodologies to ensure accuracy.

“Recent reports from the NBS have attracted undue scepticism, especially from political opposition and persistent critics. Interestingly, these same voices quickly accept data when it aligns with their narratives, such as reports of rising inflation,” Onanuga stated. He emphasized the independence of the NBS and its commitment to delivering reliable and objective data.

Onanuga highlighted that the positive GDP growth reflects the effectiveness of government initiatives under the Tinubu administration. He noted improvements in key sectors, including the service sector and the stock and bond markets, as evidence of policies fostering job creation, sustainable growth, and economic resilience.

“These developments are laying the groundwork for improved living standards, more job opportunities, and a stronger economy for all Nigerians,” he said.

While acknowledging ongoing challenges, Onanuga urged Nigerians to celebrate progress and avoid dismissive attitudes that undermine the efforts of the government and private sector. “We must always recognise and celebrate every milestone achieved,” he appealed.

The Q3 2024 GDP report underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening the economy, despite facing criticism from certain quarters.
