The General Supervisor of ThankGod Awaited Liberation Ministry, Ikeja, Lagos, Prophet Francis Otukwu, has said that God allowed the coup that toppled President Bazoum’s government in Niger Republic to teach former President Muhammadu Buhari and his successor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a lesson that no matter how powerful and arrogant a leader may be, God remains the final arbiter in the affairs of mankind, irrespective of religious inclinations.

He recalled how the Katsina-born President ran an unpopular and corrupt regime with little regard for justice, equity, and the rule of law, which left the economy prostate with millions of Nigerians unemployed, impoverished under the menace of kidnappers, bandits, ritual killers and brutal gunmen.

“Conscious of such an evil legacy, including a highly discredited presidential poll, Buhari, at the twilight of his administration had boasted that if Nigerians disturb him, he would relocate to Niger Republic for a peaceful retirement, after wasting lives and destroying the livelihood of millions of his countrymen and women.

“That is why God went ahead of him to ensure that he either returns home to Daura, after his holidays abroad to be part of his successor’s economic and political theatrics or remain in self-imposed exile abroad as the dream of moving over for unperturbed rest in Niger Republic no longer realistic. The coup is also a sort of trap to Nigeria, especially with President Bola Tinubu as Chairman of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government that has been beating drums of war and threat of restoring Bazoum to power, without finding out the root cause of the rebellion as democracy in Africa often suppresses issues of injustice and socio-economic marginalisation.

The cleric who stated this at the sidelines of the ministry’s 17th Anniversary/Founder’s Birthday Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, therefore, cautioned the ECOWAS under President  Tinubu’s leadership to listen to voices of reason and follow peaceful and diplomatic means in dealing with the military regime in Niamey to avoid creating unnecessary hardship for our northern brothers in particular, and possible humiliation for Nigeria in the case of an arms conflict as the new regime commands the support of their citizens and some regional governments.
