In a recent development, a High Court in Port Harcourt has officially affirmed Edison Ehie as the legitimate speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Ehie, aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is part of a group of four lawmakers supportive of the governor. Previously, Ehie faced impeachment during a political crisis aimed at ousting Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The impeachment occurred in October, and the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaehwule, cited Ehie’s absence from a legislative session as the reason for his removal.
Edison Ehie, known for his staunch support of Governor Fubara, played a role in thwarting an attempt to impeach the governor.
However, in a recent court ruling, Amaewhule and Dumle Maol were restrained from presenting themselves as the speaker or interfering with the activities of Rt. Hon. Edison Ogerenye Ehie as the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This legal decision confirms Edison Ehie’s status as the authentic speaker, underscoring the legal authority of his position in the face of prior political turmoil.
