Saturday witnessed a surge in voter participation as long queues formed at various polling units for the court-ordered re-run election in the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency of Cross River State.

The enthusiasm was particularly notable at Polling Unit 007 Akaravuni Bus Stop, Akpet Central, Biase Local Government Area, where a substantial number of voters gathered.

Commencing at 9 a.m., the re-run election drew a significant deployment of security operatives in Calabar to ensure a peaceful and orderly process. Polling Unit 007, with 1,124 registered voters, utilized the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for smooth accreditation.

Mary Joseph, one of the voters at the polling unit, expressed the collective sentiment, stating, “This is not the time to sit down and watch; we have been docile for too long. We need to come out and choose our representative, someone we can hold accountable.”

Similarly, at Polling Unit 002, Playground Emouno in Agwagune/Okurike in Biase LGA, the voting process unfolded seamlessly with a large presence of security operatives. The polling unit, hosting 526 registered voters, witnessed a good turnout, with voters conducting themselves appropriately. The atmosphere remained peaceful as citizens exercised their right to vote for a representative in the House of Representatives.
