The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has honored Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the Public Office Holder of the Year.

The association praised Fubara for his exceptional leadership, particularly in navigating political challenges and maintaining stability in Rivers State.

HURIWA highlighted Fubara’s resilience in overcoming political machinations, reportedly orchestrated by his predecessor, Wike, and described these efforts as unprecedented in their scope and intensity. Despite these challenges, Fubara’s strategic leadership rendered these attempts ineffective.

The association also criticized the alleged conspiratorial alliance between political attackers and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), which it claimed aimed to erode democracy in the state. However, HURIWA commended the people of Rivers State for their unwavering support for Fubara, recognizing his genuine intentions to serve and uplift the state.

Under Fubara’s leadership, Rivers State has experienced significant infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and socio-economic growth. His administration has focused on enhancing educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and transportation networks, significantly improving the quality of life for residents.

Fubara’s commitment to youth empowerment and economic development has been evident through initiatives such as skill acquisition programs, vocational training centers, and scholarship schemes. These efforts have provided thousands of young people with the tools to thrive in an increasingly competitive economy, addressing youth unemployment and fostering sustainable growth.

HURIWA emphasized Fubara’s ability to maintain focus and deliver results despite political distractions, describing it as a testament to his strength as a leader and his dedication to the people of Rivers State. The association urged the people of Rivers State to remain resolute, resilient, and supportive of his administration, emphasizing that sustained unity and backing from the populace would enable Fubara to continue implementing impactful projects and policies.

Additionally, HURIWA suggested further initiatives for Fubara to deepen Rivers State’s development and stability, including low-cost housing schemes, expansion of the public transportation system, and the creation of agricultural cooperatives. The association also called for comprehensive healthcare programs, improved community policing initiatives, and increased investments in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to drive economic activity.

HURIWA lauded Fubara’s efforts to forge partnerships with national and international organizations, bringing expertise and resources to accelerate the state’s development. The association emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance, urging Fubara to continue engaging with the people of Rivers State to ensure their voices shape policies and initiatives.
