Lamido Sanusi, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Emir of Kano, has firmly stated that he will not align himself with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing its economic policies as lacking credibility and direction.
Speaking at the 21st Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture in Lagos, Sanusi expressed his disapproval of the government’s approach to economic management. He noted that the challenges Nigeria faces were predictable and avoidable but said he would not offer solutions or insights to help the administration.
“I don’t have anything to do with failure,” Sanusi declared. “I have chosen not to speak about the economy or reforms because if I explain, it would help the government, and I don’t want to help this government. They’re my friends, but if they don’t behave like friends, I won’t behave like one either.”
Sanusi criticized the lack of credibility within Tinubu’s administration, asserting that the government must explain its economic decisions to Nigerians. He remarked, “They don’t even have people with credibility who can come and explain what they are doing. Let them justify their policies while I watch from the sidelines with my popcorn.”
The former CBN governor’s comments have sparked widespread debate, highlighting growing concerns about the effectiveness of Tinubu’s economic strategies and the credibility of his government.
