Nasir El-Rufai, the ex-governor of Kaduna State, has staunchly defended his administration’s integrity in light of a recent report advocating for his investigation.
The report was submitted by an ad hoc committee, established specifically to scrutinize El-Rufai’s government.
The Speaker of the Kaduna House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, upon receiving the report, alleged that El-Rufai’s administration had misappropriated a total of N423 billion, leaving the state burdened with substantial liabilities.
The committee’s recommendations included the immediate suspension of the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, and the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board. It also suggested that El-Rufai and other implicated officials should be investigated and prosecuted by security and anti-corruption agencies.
In response to these allegations, El-Rufai, through his media aide Muyiwa Adekeye, issued a statement asserting his pride in his administration’s record. He dismissed the committee’s claims as scandalous and assured Nigerians of his government’s integrity.
El-Rufai expressed his confidence in the officials who served under his government, stating that their participation in the committee’s inquiry was a testament to their belief in the quality of their service to Kaduna State. He criticized the committee’s process as a mere formality, designed to lend credibility to preconceived conclusions.
El-Rufai concluded his statement by assuring Nigerians that he had served Kaduna State with integrity and to the best of his ability, in compliance with all existing laws. He dismissed the probe as a politically motivated smear campaign.
