The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has affirmed that peace has been fully restored in Rivers State, with all key stakeholders now committed to working collaboratively for the state’s progress.

He acknowledged that while some individuals have benefited from the recent crisis in the oil-rich state and are reluctant to see peace return, the majority are determined to ensure lasting calm and stability.

Wike expressed his strong support for the peace process and the full restoration of democracy in Rivers State. He emphasized that if President Bola Tinubu did not intend to lift the state of emergency, he could have taken measures to maintain it.

During an interview on Channels Television, Wike revealed that he had communicated with Governor Siminalayi Fubara following President Tinubu’s decision to end the emergency rule. The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to peace and cooperation moving forward.

“We all met and agreed on how to move forward, and to the glory of God, peace has returned. As of yesterday, I spoke to the Governor, and I can assure you that, against all odds, peace is now restored,” Wike said.

He added, “I was watching television today and saw some individuals who thrive on crisis, believing they can only benefit when there is unrest. But if we wanted this state of emergency to continue, there were several things we could have done to ensure it.”

Wike concluded by praising the state Assembly for setting a positive tone and encouraged all citizens to focus on the future and development of Rivers State.
